Graston Technique® was originally conceived by an amateur athlete who suffered debilitating knee injuries while skiing. Lack of progress in rehabilitation after surgery and routine treatment is frustrated. After consulting with several healthcare professionals, he decided to apply his professional background to the field of machining to create a variety of devices to treat soft tissue injuries. He achieved early success on his knees, and worked with medical and researchers at Ball Memorial Hospital and Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana to develop a comprehensive technology and a suite of instruments. Through this collaboration, GrastonTechnique® treatment was born. In 1994, TherapyCare Resources Inc., the parent company of Graston Technique® treatment, opened an outpatient clinic in Indianapolis to collect outcome data for various chronic and acute injuries. Five years later, the company shifted all its energies to teaching and training clinicians and continued research into the technology.
