In 1982, the idea for Gondola Getaway was to bring the old-world charm of the "Gondola" back into the canals of the Naples Islands. When the Islands were developed into a Venetian-style neighborhood with grand canals and romantic bridges in 1903, gondolas were the first to arrive in the area. They have worked for more than 35 years to provide 100s of thousands of guests with a high level of service and authenticity. They train a team to go to Venice every year to row and race with the Venetians to help with authenticity. For the past 33 years, they are the only American team to accomplish this.
