George Thomas Florist has been known as the hometown flower shop of Indianapolis since 1928. George Thomas Florist has several names because it originated in the Knightstown Greenhouses, in 1928 by CM Schatzlein and Jenny Shatzlein (Jennie Schatzlein) was founded. George and Helen joined the organization in 1948. Robert Kiefer founded the store in about 1923, and Tom Smith and Pat Smith bought the store in 1962. Until 1970, shopkeepers Tom & Patricia Smith (Pat Smith), Helen, and George Schatzlein combined the names of George and Tom to form the now famous store. The company moved to the first branch in Arlington and 10th Street. In search of a new home, the store moved to the redeveloped George Thomas Plaza in the 1990s, on Tenth Street and Shadeland Ave.
