About Freehands
Josh Rubin, New York-based FreeHand’s designer and founder of Cool Hunting, realized there was an opportunity in the winter of 2007 when he found himself answering his iPhone with his nose to avoid removing gloves. The trouble with the glove or cellphone conundrum came over dinner with his father, Stanley Rubin, who made and sold gloves easily. A few minutes later, sketches were drawn, scissors came out, and FreeHand’s gloves were born. Throughout his career as a professional interface designer, Freehands has worked to blend usability, usability, and aestheticism. Stanley grew up in Gloversville, nay, the son of a glove manufacturer. Like his brother and nephew, Stanley followed suit, and arguably knew something about gloves. Freehands represents the fusion of Josh and Stanley's experience, sensibility and design aesthetics.
