About Expeditionary Art
At Expeditionary Art, sketch on the sea ice. Photo: K. He believes that art is a tool for exploration, observation and scientific inquiry. Grant St. gets Expeditionary Art news every month. He works in the tradition of travel artist naturalist and educator. Since 2005, he has focused on painting polar and glacial regions, and he often works with scientific teams. In the wild, he sketched with ink and watercolor, and collected multimedia records to build his own palette, recording experiences, climate, and colors. He developed this work into studio painting for painting and provided demonstrations and workshops for audiences of all ages to cultivate observation, scientific inquiry and environmental awareness. His interest in field art and science was first inspired by artists such as Edward Wilson of Antarctica, Emily Carr of British Columbia, and Thomas Moran of the Western United States.
