Since being independently owned and established by Walter Carr in 1973 at 109 Main Street in Pioneer Square, Elliott Bay has changed locations, adding Seattle's first bookstore café and an event space for author readings. They remained there until 2010, when they moved to the Capitol Hill neighborhood, which is close to downtown Seattle.
