Crack-Up was released six years after Helplessness Blues in 2011 and nearly a decade after the band's self-titled debut in 2008. Robin Pecknold is the author of Crack-Up's eleven songs. Pecknold and Skyler Skjelset, his longtime bandmate, collaborator, and childhood friend, collaborated on the album's production.
