Csl was founded in 1839 by a group of German immigrants in Perry county, Missouri. In 1849, the preparatory and theological school of this young institution moved to St. Louis and south Jefferson street and Winnipeg street. The department of preparation moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1861.In 1926, the campus moved to its current 72-acre site on the outskirts of Clayton. Today, Concorde theological seminary is one of two private Lutheran seminaries - the Missouri synod (LCMS) - providing men for the LCMS ministry of the word of god, preparing women through its deaconess studies program, and offering advanced degree courses in theology to qualified students. It is also a center for theological studies, scholarships and continuing education for the clergy. Since its founding, Csl has provided the church with more than 12,500 professional workers.
