About Corvair
When Joan and Cal Clark completed the repair of their Corvair and saw that people were requesting the parts they had acquired over the preceding months for their car, they decided to launch this business as a hobby. They installed 5 shelf units in their apartment and created a tiny "catalog" with a list of 150 Covair parts. Joan left her secretary position in less than two years, and Cal soon stopped teaching biology, general science, and drivers ed. They both learnt to drive in Covairs and went on high school dates in Corvair because they adored them! They began construction in 1978 after it became clear that a 1, 500 square foot home could not accommodate 12 full-time workers and more than 4, 000 pieces. Since then, they have constructed 8 structures totaling more than 60, 000 square feet. They currently employ 24 people, create over 14, 000 part numbers, including whole upholstery sets, mechanical parts, and their catalogs (now over 600 pages).
