Core Knowledge is an independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization based in Charlottesville, founded in 1986 by e. d. Hirsch, Jr. , professor emeritus at the university of Virginia and author of many prominent educational books. Core Knowledge foundation's mission is to promote excellence in education and equality for all children. To achieve this mission, they have provided schools, teachers, parents, and policy makers with detailed curriculum guidance and materials for those who believe, as they do, that every child in a pluralistic democracy deserves access to enabling knowledge.
