About Camp Tamarack
Camp Tamarack started as a restrictive pony camp for young ladies in 1935 during the stature of the Great Depression. They were established by Donna Gill of Lebanon and Lucille Murphy of Portland, who rented the land for the camp from the USDA Forest Service (The Sunday Oregonian 1960:33). The camp was set up not long after a 1933 Recreation Handbook was given by the Forest Service that organized the sort of advancement that association camps, including private camps, could use to make their own offices under a unique use grant. Camp Tamarack advances the lives of children through hands-on learning undertakings set in the stunning wild of Central Oregon. The most great youth (that is every one of them!) come to them to find out about, live, and love everything the outside brings to the table.
