Bryant Park Hotel was designed by architects John howells and Raymond hood and built in 1924 for the American radiator company. Bryant Park Hotel won international fame in 1922, winning an international competition for the new office building of the Chicago Tribune. The skyscraper will be made of black brick and covered with golden masonry, and the architects have combined gothic and modern styles in their design. Black brick (symbolizing coal) is chosen for the building facade to give robustness and give the building a solid quality. The rest of the facade is clad in gold bricks (a symbol of fire), while the entrance is decorated with marble and black mirrors. Mr. Howells and Mr. Hood employed the talents of their regular collaborator, Rene Paul Chambellan, for decoration and sculpture.
