Ryan Bowley, a mechanical engineer with a background in machinery development, and Tyler Bowley, a commerce graduate with a background in corporate insurance, founded Bowley Lock Company in 2015. They became acutely aware that the security of their common hardware store locks was inadequate when the police attributed lock tampering as the method of several home robberies in their community. They made the decision to install high-security locks in their homes, but they were surprised by how much they cost. They set out to develop a high-security lock that the average person could afford after feeling let down by the lock industry. Bowley Lock Company knew they were onto something when a novel idea for a shielded bump- and pick-proof lock came to them after many long sessions of brainstorming. They started working on the lock and later applied for an international patent for the concept.
