About Bloom Products, LLC
In 1860, James Spratt, an electrician from Cincinnati, United States, went to London to sell lightning rods. When the ship arrived in England, he happened to find that his dog particularly liked biscuits discarded by sailors. Then he had an idea. He quickly took flour, vegetables, meat and water, mixed them together, and began to make and sell dog food. Thus was born the first commercial dog food in human history. After 62 years, in 1922 in the 20th century, Bloom Products, LLC provided canned horsemeat to refugees in France, the Netherlands, Italy and other countries, and sold the rest of the meat as dog food back to the United States. At its peak, the company could kill 50,000 horses a year. In 1954, Bloom Products, LLC tried to mix rice flour, salt, and sugar with emulsified animal liver, skim milk, and soybean flour, mixing them into a paste and drying them on asphalt.
