About BeachWay Resort
The seaside resort in Saugatuck, Michigan has a history of more than 100 years. When it opened in 1900, it was called "Pokagon Inn" and it was the first hotel on the banks of the West River. BeachWay Resort can accommodate 100 tourists, including a 200-foot riverside pier. The first year must have been very successful, because it was announced in 1901 that 50 more rooms would be added. However, in the autumn of 1901, the hotel was burnt down and closed. In 1906, a new owner rebuilt the Pokagon Inn on the original site of BeachWay Resort. Before the 1930s, the only way to get from Lake Sogartack to Lake Michigan was by boat upstream. This is an oval beach road built in the 1930s connecting the west bank and the lake.
