Mike McGowan has lived in Dixie, Louisiana, all of his life. He began his career in the metal industry by welding in the family shop for his father. He worked there until 1987, when he started working full-time at them. Mike has spent his entire life immersed in the BBQ world; After years of listening to people talk about barbecue and the various cookers they were using, he created the first Backwoods Smoker, a patio. He set out to create a unit that would take all of the experience he had gained and perfect it after paying close attention to what they liked and didn't like about their cookers.
