About American Victory
The American Victory, built in 1945, traveled the world to deliver vital cargo during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. The SS American Victory is one of only four operational merchant steamships from World War II in the United States today. It hosts special events, benefits from memberships, donations, and corporate sponsorships, and provides daily educational tours. It also serves as a training site for firefighters, law enforcement officers, active and reserve military, and working dogs. It has been restored, maintained, and operated by dedicated volunteers for over a million hours since its arrival in Tampa in September 1999. The Ship and Museum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The ship can be found directly behind The Florida Aquarium in the Water Street District.
