The first stirrup designed by American Equus founder David Shano was inspired by his daughter, Chloe. At the time, Chloe, who was 14 years old at the time, had trouble keeping her stirrups on. As she started jumping and riding horses rather than ponies, David started trying to help his daughter keep her stirrups on by using his skills in design, machining, and problem-solving. Shano was certain that he could improve on the stirrups that were already in place after looking at European stirrups that were available at the time and analyzing each lesson his daughter took. American Equus got to work designing a product that would keep Chloe's leg in line with her shoulders and hips while also firmly securing her foot in the stirrup. David and Chloe came to the conclusion that they had created the ideal stirrup after developing it through several iterations and an early version.
